Civil Supplies
The Civil Supplies Department discharges the important responsibilities of Public Distribution enforcement of markets discipline and promotion of consumer awareness and protection of their interests. The Public Distribution System came into existence in the state with effect from 01/07/1965. The state which has very high deficit in the production of food grains, the Public Distribution System has great relevance and importance.Keeping in view, the importance and need of promotion of consumer awareness and protection of human rights, Government have formed a separate wing in the Food, Civil Supplies.
The Director of Civil Supplies is the functional head of the Department. In each revenue district there is a District Supply Office functioning under the general supervision and control of the District Collector. The head of the office is the District Supply Officer. The organisational structure is as follows : District Supply Officer – Senior Superintendent – Junior Superintendent – Clerks. There are 5 Taluk Supply Offices in this district and the supervision and control of the public distsribution system are carried out by the Taluk Supply Officers. The organisational structure is as follows: Taluk Supply Officer – Assistant Taluk Supply Officer – Rationing Inspector – Clerks. 702 ARDs are functioning in this district.
National Food Security Act 2013
National Food Security Act 2013(also Right to Food Act) is an act of the Parliament of India which aims to provide subsidised food grains to people. Government of Kerala started the implementation of NFSA from Ist November 2016. NFSA scheme envisages the doorstep delivery of rationed articles at the ration ships, distribution of rationed articles to the cardholders with thehelp of E-pose Machine.
Antyodaya Anna Yojana(Yellow Rationcard)
Under this scheme, 35 Kgm. of food grains is distributed to the poorest of the poor families with free of cost. The scheme is inplemented in the State from 25/02/2001 onwards. There are 33913 AAY cards in this district.
Priority(Pink Rationcard)
Under this scheme, 5 kgms. of food grains is distributed to each member of the family at free of cost. There are 119111 priority cards in this district.
Non-Priority Subsidy(Blue Rationcard)
Under this scheme, 2 Kg rice distributed to each card holder @ Rs.2/-. 79838 ration cards exists in this category.
Non-Priority(White Rationcard)
Under this scheme, rice @ Rs.8.90 and wheat @ Rs.6.70 are distributed to each card subject to the availability and get 2 Kg. fortified atta @ Rs.15/- . 42574 ration cards exists in this category.
Every card holder get 0.5 litre of kerosene to electrified households and 4 litre to non-electriied card holder.
